The Local Development Social Inclusion Programme (LDSIP)

The Local Development Social Inclusion Programme has been in operation since 2000 under the National Development Plan.  Pobal manages the programme on behalf of the Department of Community Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs.  The Local Development Social Inclusion Programme (LDSIP) aims to counter disadvantage and to promote social inclusion.

MEASURES
The LDSIP currently involves three areas of activity:

Measure A - Services for the Unemployed
Services for the unemployed Measure targets the unemployed, the under-employed, those who are outside the workforce altogether, as well as those who are in work but vulnerable, such as those with very low skill levels.  This Measure aims to support their progression towards education, training, employment or self-employment and aim to help overcome barriers to progression, such as discrimination or the lack of childcare.  Under this measure, FORUM employs a full time employment mediator to provide information, support and training to under and unemployed people and farm families.

Measure B - Community Development
The Community Development Measure aims to enhance the capacity of the programme’s target groups to play a role in shaping the society of which they are a part.  It works towards helping disadvantaged groups and communities to articulate their needs and viewpoints and to influence planning and decision making processes.

Under Measure B, FORUM will engage in the following actions:-

- Carry out needs analysis of community groups in the locality of the FORUM project area, to highlight the needs of groups and to feed in to the LDSIP strategic plan.

- Provide community supports to older people and people with a disability.

- Provide community support to refugees and asylum seekers.

Measure C  - Community Based Youth Initiatives
The Community Based Youth Initiatives Measure  aims to add value to formal and non-formal education systems to support the participation and achievement of young people who experience social exclusion.

Under Measure C, FORUM will work with Galway County Sports Partnership and Connacht Rugby to provide a LEP Rugby programme for girls aged 14-16 years in Clifden and Oughterard post primary schools.
