The Rural Development Programme (LEADER) 2007-2013 is part of the overall European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development. It is commonly known as the LEADER programme and administered across Europe using various institutional arrangements for its delivery. In Ireland the Rural Development Programme is delivered through 36 Local Action Groups (LAG’s) on behalf of the Department of Community, Equality and Gaeltacht Affairs.
FORUM Connemara Ltd. is the LAG with responsibility for delivering the Rural Development Programme in that area of Galway known as non Gaeltacht Connemara.
The overall aims of the Rural Development Programme (LEADER) 2007 – 2013 are “to improve the quality of life in rural areas and to diversify the rural economy”. The measures supported under the programme are listed below and information on each measure can be obtained by clicking on the link.
Any potential project must fall under one of these themes in order to be eligible for funding. Grant aid is available for three types of projects:
Capital - Equipment, construction, refurbish or outfit a building or to purchase machinery etc. Analysis and Development - Community plans, surveys, feasibility studies, village enhancement plans etc. Training - Specialised and specific training courses that are not available through mainstream educational institutions.
