The Irish Language Plan

The Clifden Irish Language Plan is an initiative aimed at strengthening the use of Irish in our Community. As part of our Plean Teanga, we want to celebrate and support the everyday use of Gaeilge in the Gaeltacht service town of Clifden.

We’re creating fun and practical ways for everyone to engage with the Irish language—whether fluent, rusty, or just starting out.

Lets get Clochán ag Cáint.

The Clifden Irish Language Plan is committed to reviving and preserving the Irish language as an integral part of our community's identity and cultural heritage. Our mission is to foster a vibrant, inclusive and sustainable language environment that promotes the active use and appreciation of the Irish language in all aspects of daily life.

The role of the Irish Language Planning Officer for the Clifden area is to provide accessible resources, programmes and initiatives that support language learners, residents, native Irish speakers and visitors alike to develop their fluency and understanding of Irish. Through collaborative partnerships with interested local parties, FORUM Connemara CLG aims to further weave the Irish language into the fabric of Clifden and its surrounding areas, increasing its presence in public spaces, schools, workplaces and social gatherings.

The Clochán Irish Language Plan aims to create a sustainable and vibrant future for generations to come, by celebrating the Irish language in our region, we hope to empower our community and foster a strong sense of Irish cultural pride.

FORUM Connemara CLG wish to acknowledge the support and input received from the greater community and the Connemara Chamber of Commerce, on making this exciting programme a reality.
